Write & Market an Amazon Best Seller

You’ve written your book. That separates you from all the people who only talk about writing a book, but never get it done. You did it. You’re published! Hands clapping!

Now you have to sell it. But how??

You write a book and then your book floats adrift among the other thousands of eBooks. Few will even know it exists.

Luckily, there are tools.

My Best Seller Book

I am the author of 12 eBooks. One has been a frequent best seller on Amazon.com.

The book, “Unvanquished: How Confederate Women Survived the Civil War”, is a collection of 50 diary excerpts of Confederate women written during the Civil War.  I was curious how these women survived. Many were alone with large families to support without their husbands. They often were on the brink of starvation.

Originally I thought I only needed to write the book. And it would sell on its own

I had worked hard on the book, reading 100 Civil War diaries and selecting only the most interesting selections. I knew people were interested in the history of the Civil War, so I thought the book would sell. Ha!

But sales were eerily slow... What happened?

Slowly I realized I wrote the book, but now I must SELL the book. I needed to become a marketer and be good at it, and quick.

Where to Sell:

Amazon.com

Amazon is America’s top online marketplace. 95 million people have Amazon Prime memberships in the US. For the US market, Amazon is selling 83.3% of the eBooks.

How does Amazon help authors sell their books?

Amazon WANTS you to sell you book. After all, they receive a portion! First you need to join Amazon’s KDP Select program.

Marketing Your Self Published Book

Authors have to wear 2 hats: writer & marketer. You write the book and are exhausted. Well, now you have to market it. Otherwise your book will be lost in a sea of thousands of Amazon books and no one knows it exits.

eBook Promo sites like FreeBooksy, The Fussy Librarian, Book Sends have huge subscriber lists.  100,000 people, for example, who signed up to have access to free books or bargain books. Your book will be featured in their mailings. They charge between $40 to $65.

If you sell exclusively on Amazon, Amazon gives you 5 days within each 90 day period to offer your book for free. I chose this route.

After you reserve a free offer day on Amazon, you coordinate with the eBook Promo sites to schedule your book to their subscriber list on the same day. Each subscriber has already selected a book genre like "Non Fiction" or "Romance Novels", so they are already receptive to getting book suggestions.

Why Offer your Book for Free on Amazon?

Amazon is giving you access to millions of people and it costs you nothing. Millions! If you had to PAY for that kind of advertising access, it would cost $$ thousands.

The book I wrote and marketed is "Unvanquished: How Confederate Women of the South Survived the Civil War".

You just offer your book free for 1 day (reserve it on Amazon KDP) and pay maybe $50 to the Book Promo companies like FreeBooksy to offer your book to their huge subscriber lists for that 1 day.

Amazon will notice how many people download your Kindle book that day and it affects the Amazon algorithm. Every time I offer my book for free, the following days I get more sales because the Amazon algorithm has elevated my book in the search results.
